Even though they are produced by comparable processes, rosé and white Zinfandel are very different in taste. Winemaking is a sophisticated craft that is difficult to describe adequately in the limited space available here. For our purposes, you really simply need to know that rosé is most typically prepared by letting red grape skins to ferment with wine for just a few hours. The red wines ripen for several weeks, but white wines do not. Unlike red wine, which spends more time in touch with the fruit skins, rosé has a pale tint.
White Zin is made from Zinfandel grapes, just as Rosé can be made from any red grape.
White Zinfandel has a sweeter, lighter, and simpler flavor than many pink or rosé varietals. Rosé can be light and light-sweet or medium-sweet and medium-dry. The different shades of red can range from light pink to dark crimson.
